Marriott International Reaches 100-Property Milestone in Saudi Arabia

Marriott International has reached a new development benchmark in Saudi Arabia, announcing a combined total of 100 open and pipeline hotels across the kingdom following the just-announced signing of a 1,100-room Courtyard by Marriott in Makkah. The agreement was signed with a fund managed by SEDCO Capital.

Set within Masar, a major urban development led by Umm Al Qura for Development and Construction, the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel is expected to open in 2030. The hotel will form part of the masterplan leading to the Masjid al-Haram and is positioned to support the city’s long-term tourism and infrastructure goals.

“Achieving the 100-property milestone in Saudi Arabia underscores Marriott’s commitment to one of the world’s most dynamic hospitality markets,” said Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International. “The signing of Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Masar reflects our confidence in the Kingdom’s tourism growth and infrastructure development. As part of our broader expansion aligned with Vision 2030, this project also strengthens our presence in the Holy City of Makkah and will offer visitors a modern, service-oriented hospitality experience within the landmark Masar master plan.”

An Expanding Footprint in the Holy City

Covering 4,500 sqm, Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Masar is expected to feature 1,100 rooms and suites, several dining options, meeting and event spaces including a ballroom, a fitness centre, a kids’ club, and retail offerings. The location offers convenient access to Makkah’s key landmarks and sits within a destination designed to enhance connectivity, infrastructure and the overall resident and visitor experience.

Aligned with Vision 2030, Masar aims to support Saudi Arabia’s target of hosting 30 million pilgrims annually, supported by a Transit-Oriented Development plan to modernise transport infrastructure and improve movement within the city.

Marriott has operated in Saudi Arabia for more than 40 years. The company currently has 44 properties and more than 11,000 rooms in operation across 13 brands in the kingdom. Courtyard by Marriott, the company’s most global brand, currently operates six hotels in Saudi Arabia.
